Historic election success for Independents at North Kesteven
Congratulations and thank you to the residents who have finally got their voices heard in a big way in the recent election.
It has been a phenomenal ground-breaking night as Lincolnshire Independents gained seat after seat on NKDC. Independents now make up the majority on North Kesteven District Council, 22 to 20. Lincolnshire Independents are well-established and working together.
We have talented councillors, who work consistently for other people, deeply involved in our communities. We have faith in our residents, because we are the residents.
In the past, we were held back by national parties interfering in local councils; Two years ago we were hit by Theresa May’s call to support her councillors to help her get Brexit through”! That is her councillors, not yours or mine! That pressure was lifted and people have made their own minds up about who will represent them best.
“Lincolnshire Independents have served consistently over many years, making up a big portion of the District Council before this election, and with a significant impact so far, despite barriers. There is much more to do. So no games, let’s just get on with the work.”
“But the politics was broken, not listening enough and too much driven by an external agenda.” said their leader, Cllr Marianne Overton MBE. “Instead we have talented new councillors from all walks of life have fought and won the right to represent our communities, joining the Lincolnshire Independents team on North Kesteven District Council.”
“We are determined to have Independent representatives rooted in local communities, listening locally and taking action at all levels to support our local communities, said leader Marianne Overton MBE.” “The rising wave of protest, about everything from Brexit to climate change, shows people are fed up with voting for one thing and getting another, ending in a party political shambles. Now is the time for Independent Voices to be heard loud and clear, determined to properly represent their residents, unshackled by party politics. Our future is Independent.”
People are just starting to understand that they are not truly represented, either locally, nationally or in Europe. The people have faith in us to mirror local voices at all levels, both in our councils here and across Europe, wherever decisions are made that affect our lives. We are local, and we listen.
In response to the 2019 local election results, Leader Marianne Overton said;
‘Today is a fantastic display of what Independents can do. Voters are clearly dismayed at the big parties and have turned to locally focused councillors to lead, inspiring changes for the better.
So far Independents and Resident Association Members have gained 662 seats and two more authorities. Many of the successes are from well-established groups who have demonstrated over a number of years that they can be relied upon to put residents first.
Independent politics is well established and now the lid is off, we are here to stay.”
It’s time. Our future is Independent.
