More money for Pothole Repairs
The roads are clearly in an appaling state, especially now after the snow, freezing and continual rain.
I have been onto highways every single day for months. We were making progress until just before the poor weather. I have taken it up at every level, from local highways officers, website, reporting phone line, leading councillors and full County Council, and nationally. At full Council we did agree extra funding, £9m more than last year, some out of reserves. I am pleased to say national lobbying has also brought fruit, with a new £3.4m, the third highest awarded to any authority in the country. It means the total spend this year will be £37.4m. This is £12m more this year than last, but follows a steady decline over a number of years, whilst the traffic and lorry sizes have increased. Reducing public spend has had its merits, but no more. It has got to the point where failing to do repairs is seriously damaging to our residents and their quality of life.
The new works programme for this year is here.
Thank you for helping to save lives by reporting potholes. It remains the gateway to getting them done. Best is by going on line
or Ring 01522 782070 A photo helps to show location and depth, if you have your phone with you. If you need to claim for accident or injury, the pothole must have been previously reported 28 days previously or less. You need to ring for a form 01522 782070 to allow highways a chance to rush out and repair it before another accident occurs.
Many thanks, Best wishes,
Marianne
