Nick Byatt is a long standing active member of the community and is currently one of the two Lincolnshire Independent Councillors in the Metheringham ward having both been elected in May 2019.
Nick has lived in Lincolnshire with his family since 1989 following a posting to RAF Waddington. Nick amassed a wealth of experience during 32 years RAF service in a variety of senior roles including flying, command, UK operations management, infrastructure planning, doctrine development, training course management, design and instruction. Alongside his active service life he took every opportunity to assist his community through being a school governor, neighbourhood watch co-ordinator and the creator of the Waddington Aircraft Viewing Enclosure, which links into the Lincolnshire Aviation Trail. He maintains his RAF and Waddington connections through his role as Secretary to the 8 Squadron Association.
Since retiring in 2010 he has worked tirelessly in local communities. In Dunston as a member of the IDEAS group, Nick was a co-winner of the NKDC 2014 Community Champions award for the development of the impressive playground in Dunston. He was also a major contributor into the Dunston Neighbourhood Plan. In Metheringham he was the driving force in the creation of the skate park and ran a ‘youthy’ for some years. Since joining the Parish Council there in 2015 he led the creation of the new playground and ran two of the village’s Fair & Feast celebrations.
Since 2012 until mid 2017 he chaired the B1188 Community Police Panel that covers the villages from Potterhanworth to Blankney. In 2014 he joined the Gold team of the Independent Advisory Group to Lincolnshire Constabulary.
In the North Kesteven District Council, Nick sits on the Audit committee, the Performance and Resources Overview & Scrutiny Panel, the Lafford Planning Committee, Licensing Committe and is Chairman of the Standards Committee.
