NK Community Champions
Huge congratulations to local volunteers who do so much for our communities. Well done Jane Barringer of Welbourn, who won her category for the lunch club and support for the elderly. Also great to see the regular litter picking by Hilary Proctor and the team from Leadenham for being one of the runner-ups. The event was held
at the Bomber Command in mid-October, with new nominations due in January.
Healthwatch Lincolnshire were commended nationally for engaging traveller communities and enabling access to mental health support where needed.
High performing NKDC wins award
The Property Design services at NK won a national award for team of the year. They design and build new Council and private purchase homes, including the very impressive nine new ones in the Old School in Sleaford.
Keeping our food safe The Environmental Health Team at NKDC were rated #1 in a recent independent report OMGOMG Scoring 100/100. https://omgomg.co.uk/food-hygiene/authority-performance/ …
Keeping you Informed: Grants for businesses
European development funds RDPE Programme are still available for expansion of rural businesses to create jobs and growth in the rural economy. www.gov.uk/government/publications/rdpe-growth-programme
The Witham Staple Magazine offers community grants.
Supporting women against violence
Lincolnshire Independents proposed a successful motion to support the United Nations initiative on equality last month. The 25th November is the day to show support for women and men against violence by wearing something orange.
We are raising £500 for Women’s Aid with an orange duck race in Sleaford. If you would like to help, please buy some ducks at 4 for £6 with prizes of £25, £50 and £100. Donate on www.lincolnshireindependents.org
We have also looked carefully at the way in which the Council deals with supporting people fleeing violence and preventing homelessness.

Tackling Crime
The Police and Crime Commissioner gave a presentation at Council. He is reducing the PCSO’s to free staff for training the new police officers. He has a significant shortfall in funding at the same time as contributing police officers to the national resources and increasing spend on vehicles and drones. That makes our already stretched local resources worse still.
Protecting our planet
I proposed the motion to take on the challenge of protecting our planet, which was overwhelmingly passed. We are now looking at the whole work of our Council and bringing significant improvements. Thanks to Sustainable Witham doing so much locally too.
Supporting you at National Events
I listened and spoke on the work of councils at the Green Party and Plaid Cymru conferences, in Newport and Swansea this month. I spoke and gathered ideas on tackling climate change at our Independent Group regional conferences in Saffron Walden, Uttlesford, Stockton on Tees and Taunton.
I have also continued to negotiate Brexit arrangements with Central Government ministers and civil servants, keen to assist.
Supporting you on Planning
The Rendering Plant at Norton Disney is coming back to committee, probably 13th January 10am. Public welcome. PL/0036/18 Please go to planning on-line and comment on this big development in the open countryside.
The Pig Farm below Harmston
As our consultants are assessing the information on smells provided by the applicant, the intensive pig rearing is not likely to come to committee before January 14th 5pm. Public welcome. Comments and information are on “planning on line north Kesteven” 19/1085/FUL
Supporting Local Events

Many Thanks to everyone for our harvest, fireworks, remembrance and fund-raising events across the patch.
Thanks to Leadenham for the excellent food and world class entertainment from Mimi of ‘Allo ‘Allo.
