Dear Resident,
Your Independent Representative
Whilst the two big parties are making a mess in Parliament, we can at least get things right here. One third of the current District Councillors are Independent, and we have a very positive impact, especially in planning, quality of life locally and new ideas for improvements and to help fund services. With 24 Lincolnshire Independents now standing for election, we can do more, a lot more.
Action for you
Let’s work together to make a clean and safe environment in our villages as a top priority. We need good access to health and care, more opportunities for young people, support for small businesses and better planning. Big issues raised this week on doorsteps in your village are rural transport and the unnecessary rendering plant. The Conservative approach to house building hardly pays lip service to everything else that matters, such as a doctors’ surgery in Witham, traffic speeding through villages and congestion at junctions.
It really does matter that you vote
Not voting is simply shooting this community in the foot. Our North Kesteven District Councillors decide on planning applications and how much support to provide in our area. Let’s have a huge turnout to show that in the Eagle, Swinderby and Witham St Hughs Ward, we care and we matter.
I believe it is important to get many more councillors who are independent, genuinely looking at issues from your local point of view and I support them wherever they seek election. We need active, listening councillors who know what they are doing, make good decisions and help us locally.
No national party politics in our councils
Do you think that our local Councils should be run by party politicians who are under the thumb of national parties in government? The Conservatives running our Councils say that they are doing well. But are you happy with the planning decisions, potholes, litter, closure of our cost-effective recycling sites, access to health and ambulance services threatened? Only the Lincolnshire Independents have fought valiantly against the party-political push for massive housing, without matching services, stretching our resources to breaking point. Putting the word “local” in front of the Conservative party brand doesn’t fool anyone!
Experienced and Rooted in Lincolnshire
I come from a long line of farming in Lincolnshire, based on the Cliff Edge over the past 200 years. I started my career as an agricultural advisor. I developed a career in business related to training young people, food wholesale and latterly providing holiday accommodation for visitors to our area. My wife Marianne Overton MBE represents half the electorate in your Ward as your Lincolnshire County Councillor. Many issues are interconnected between the two Councils so having another Independent at the District Council makes sense.
Pick up the Pencil!
With the unfortunate tinkering of the ward boundaries, you are now part of a large area. The villages need good and effective representation to stop reckless policies being pushed through to your disadvantage. Even if your independent councillor does not live in your own village, you need to have a good line of communication to get advice when you need it. I believe I can do this for you. Please vote for me to get more for our village communities.
I look forward to seeing you soon.
Charles Peter Overton
