Greetings!

Hope you are safe and well and looking forward to seeing you soon at the polling station if not before!

Supporting Local business and community: So good to see local businesses and organisations reawakening with great local produce, flowers and services. Thank you.

Elections – Thursday 6th May 7am-10pm

Less than a week to go!  Please vote.

We have good Lincolnshire Independents standing for you in Lincolnshire and over 60 Independents altogether, so we might be taking back control of our local councils! Candidates are on this website under “Your Independents”.

You can vote in person. You can  take your postal vote into the polling station and hand it to the returning officer. If you need someone to vote on your behalf, you can get a proxy form off the web, completed and back to Council before 5pm on election day. (elections@n_kesteven.gov.uk)

Lockdown is lifting

We can once again enjoy a visit to the shops, have a drink in a beer garden, visit the gym, library here or community centre. Masks and social distancing still apply. The next stage is due on 17 May.

A High Court decided this week that a change in the law is needed to allow Councils to continue to meet on line, and the Government declined to do that. Nor can we meet in person under covid regulations. We are campaigning for online to be allowed.

Vaccinations

The NHS and volunteers have been doing a wonderful job getting millions of people vaccinated, and aiming to complete all by the end of July.  People aged 40 are being called this week. Details here.

Free rapid lateral flow tests

You can get free lateral flow tests for use at home from the pharmacy or PCR tests at a rapid testing site in Lincolnshire see here. Over 35,000 people have used our community testing sites with just 1.1% (391people) positive. Covid levels have dropped further nationally to less than 0.5% at most.

International travel

is opening up a little, which will be a great relief for those with family members stuck abroad. India remains in a desperate situation. Details are here. Global Travel Taskforce

Highways

As you can imagine, I have been flat out on highways with some good success and more to go. I have reviewed details of the almost 2,000 repairs done in my Division alone over the past year. We have had one of the highest spends in the County, and it’s no less than we needed.

Emergency repairs are only temporary, to make the road safe. Proper pothole repairs and resurfacing are needed. On smaller roads the repair time is still too long; up to 80 days under the contract. We previously ran a campaign and is was reduced, but not enough, and I am working on this. I have useful discussion with Highways, based on our list of priorities. We are seeing some progress on a good number of our priorities now and in the next two months.

Thank you for your support. It is clear we need to keep up the good work!

Good to see rural roads now resurfaced; Navenby Lowfields,  A607 Wellingore,  Heath Roads – more on the programme, including Green Man Road and the Pottergate, and more of our village roads.

Like me, you may like to become a dementia friend or champion and add support. Being confused and alone or in lockdown, dementia is a tough call.  Let’s keep our communities friendly and safe for all.

Community nuturing project, good for wildlife, and good for our spirits. Almost everyone has had their sunflower seeds, just a few to go. I’m looking forward to a great show later in the year.
